James is a player I admired when he was last at the Boro'" said Manager Jimmy Ginnelly "He's versatile, can play the right side of midfield, middle of midfield or right back. Players with his skill set are hard to find so when he became available I was interested in him, it was no brainer for me to bring him into an already competitive squad.
"Moving forward I’ll be expecting him to score goals and be making last-ditch tackles in our box, he’s a great lad to work with and I’m sure the fans will welcome him back with open arms." Clifton, who joined the Boro’ in 2015 was a fan favourite in his near two seasons at Liberty Way. The right-back left the Club for Brackley Town before subsequent moves to Boston United and Alfreton Town.
“I’ve had a tough couple of seasons since leaving the club,” said Clifton. “At Boston I had a double groin tear and missed a chunk of the season after Christmas, then, last year at Alfreton I tore my lateral meniscus on New Year’s Day and missed a lot of football, just making it back for the final few games, so I’m behind in terms of missing a lot of football, but I know I’ll get back to where I was, and where better to do that than where I played my best football and was happiest.
“The club is moving in the right direction now and functioning on a part-time basis. There were clubs in the league above I was talking to as well, but I want to be closer to home after a tough couple of seasons. When you look at the squad that’s been put together here it was a no brainer for me to come back. I’ve been working hard towards getting back to where I was before I left and believe I can have a strong season.
