Gillespie Calls it a Day

Experienced Striker retires

Striker Richard Gillespie has announced his retirement from football.

Gillespie joined Dorchester Town in January from local Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South rivals Poole Town.

The 35-year-old appeared 18 times for the Dolphins this season scoring 8 goals but made just five appearances for Dorchester - three from the bench - scoring once and decided to call it a day rather than drop down the non-League Pyramid.

Gillespie is Bashley’s record goalscorer with 180 goals in 324 games.

He eventually left Bash for Eastleigh in 2009 and scored 30 goals in around 100 games for the Spitfires.

A successful, 25-goal season with AFC Totton followed before signing for Poole in 2013.

But injuries restricted his appearances for the Dolphins but retires with a very good record of 248 goals in 549 appearances overall.
